'Grand Union' design used on British Airways tailfins and buses

In 1998, British Airways and the Sunday Times ran a nationwide competition seeking a British design to add to the 'Global Images' then used on BA tailfins. My design won the competition and was used for several years on eight tailfins and on airport buses. The design was inspired by the long tradition of canal art which decorates many of the barges along the Grand Union Canal. This tradition mixes stylised roses with geometric borders, painted in primary colours.
